Stephen Albaugh died January 30, 1883, last pioneer of Gasper Township; native of Maryland, came to Preble County, Ohio in 1812. Married in 1815 to Nancy Potterf, daughter of Gasper Potterf. Built a log cabin and a few years later a more commodious home in which he lived the remainder of his days. Raised eight children, six still living. Gave each 40 acres of land when they went to housekeeping, retaining 78 acres around the homestead for himself and an invalid daughter. They had been cared for by F.A. Bloom (Stephen's grandson who was taken and raised by his grandfather when he was a child) and Mr Bloom's wife. Allery Albaugh, died January 21, 1866 of typhus fever in Lee county, Iowa, age 47 years 11 months.
