Lewis A. Albaugh

Lewis A. Albaugh is a successful business man of
Butler County. He was born at Vinco, in Cambria County, Pennsylvania, December 22, 1872,
and is the son of Joseph and Almeda (Sawyer) Albaugh.
Joseph Albaugh, deceased, was a veteran of the Civil
War. He was born at Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, in 1832, the son of David Albaugh,
who was one of the first settlers of Center County, Pennsylvania, and who later removed to
Blair County, Pennsylvania. Joseph Albaugh spent his boyhood on his father's farm and was
21 years of age when he moved to Cambria County in 1853 and entered his uncle's employ,
W.W. Harris, a lumber dealer. He served throughout the Civil War with the 18th
Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry and after the close of the war returned to Cambria County
and located on a farm at Vinco, where he remained for a number of years. Later, he became
interested in oil production in McKean and Clarion counties. At the time of his death he
lived retired on his farm. Mr Albaugh was a Republican, a member of the Methodist church,
and the Grand Army of the Republic. His wife is also deceased and they are buried in
Johnstown, Pennsylvania. Mr. and Mrs. Albaugh were the parents of five children, as
follows: Gertrude, married John Varner, a retired farmer, lives at Echo,
Pennsylvania; Lewis A., the subject of this sketch; Clyde,
deceased; Ray, lives at Conemaugh, Pennsylvania; and Maude
married Irvin Custer, lives at Johnstown, Pennsylvania.
Lewis A. Albaugh grew up on his father's farm in Cambria County and
received his education in the public schools, and also attended Coopersville Academy. He
remained on the farm until he was twenty-one years of age and then came to Butler County.
He has lived at Karns City since 1895 and for the past twenty years has been interested in
the oil fields of this section. Mr. Albaugh was associated with James P. O'Hara for
several years.
In 1903 Mr. Albaugh was united in marriage with Miss Blanche O'Hara,
the daughter of James and Mary (Stone) O'Hara, natives of Karns City, and both now
deceased. They have four children: Dale, Paul, Dorothy,
and Helen.
Mr. Albaugh has always been a Republican. He is a 32nd degree Mason and
member of the Shrine. He is a director of the Merchants National Bank of Butler and is
representative of the best citizenship in the community.
