The Charles Carroll Hotel

Wheelers New Owners: Hotel To Become Charles Carroll Office Building
June 2, 1966, Westminster, Carroll, MD

The Charles Carroll Hotel, a Main Street landmark since 1898, will become a professional office building following extensive repairs and remodeling by the new owners.
The hotel, located at 117 East Main Street, was sold recently to Mr. and Mrs. Paul Wheeler, Wheeler Floor Fashions of Westminster by the Bernard Potts and Resnick interests.  No purchase price was disclosed.
Five years ago Sherman E. Flanagan, Sr. and a group of citizens purchased the hotel at public sale from the estate of George W. Albaugh.
The 50-room hotel was built in 1898 by Mr. Albaugh around an old dwelling, which is said to be about 150 years old.
Mr. Wheeler said the building will be known as the Charles Carroll Building and will  contain about 20 to 25 offices.  Floors, walls and ceilings are being renovated and plans call for installation of an elevator in the four-story building.
Wheeler said the hallway will be restored to its original condition, and all offices will be renovated to suit the taste of new tenants.
     L. Alan Evans & Associates, surveyors and civil engineers of Baltimore, plan to open their Westminster office in the newly-renovated building June 6, Wheeler said.
Another proposed tenant is the bookkeeping department of the Union National Bank across the alley on Main Street, he said, and we are getting calls from various sources daily.
The transaction was handled by Carroll Crawford, Westminster Realty and Insurance Company.
