Betz Family
FHC F# 873681 It 14 Biographical Sketch of the Betz FamilyBy G.M. Gault, 1892-3 W.E. Roberts Publisher, Germano, Ohio Pg 28-29 The fourth branch comes above the gratified stock belonging to the second wife, we call it Aunt Jusah and she was twice married, like her mother, first, to Benjamin Cabel, and next to Robert Hannah, the last like some others got away. Of the Cable children, there was William, Andrew and Benjamin as boys, and Delilah Sarah as girls. There are five of the Hannah children, Robert, Abe, Lizzie, Anne and Nancy, but we can not stop to consider all the descendants of this branch. Delilah was married twice; first to James Shanon and the second to David Albaugh. Sarah was married to Levi Arbaugh and a grandson of theirs, H.M. Albaugh has twice been assistant secretary, first at the Lake in 1890 and also at he Grove in 1891. Pg 32-34 Delilah Shannon's second husband was David Albaugh. They have eight children, four boys and four girls, viz. Grafton, David, Theodore, Madison, Harriet, Sarah Anne, Catharine, and Jennie. Harriet married a Mr. Van Kirk and had five children. Sarah married Benjamin Cahil, the wagoner of Co. B 157th Regiment, O.V.I., the regiment commanded by George W. McCook. They had five children, some of whom live in California. Madison and Harriet live at Middlebourne, Guernsey County, Ohio and Jennie lives in Medina County. Catharine married Nimrod Johnston and subsequently got a divorce from him. Their children are scattered. Rose is dead; Kate went west with Mr. Shoemaker; Flora is at New Philadelphia, and Minnie is married and lives at New Lisbon. Catharine married Wm. Davis and also lives at New Lisbon. But we shall follow the history of these children no firther, for how can we be expected to keep together those whom the law could not. As we stated in a previous paragraph, Sarah Cable married Levi Albaugh. They both died some years ago at Unionport, Ohio. They had seven children, some of whom we shall enumerate. Henry Harrison is a carpenter at Bloomfield. He married Lucretia Davis and they have one son, Charles. H.M. Albaugh is a dentist in Cleveland, Ohio. One of the girls is living at home. There is also another daughter, Annie E., who is the widow of Thomas Crown. She has two daughters, both living with her. [see minutes of 1891] There are also two other sons, Madison, living in Guernsey County, Ohio and George, who is a dentist, but as we could get no information regarding them, we can say nothing further concerning them. Pg 41 William S. Betz married Amanda Albaugh and they are living on the farm, and have one child, a daughter. Pg 42-45 The head of the third division of the sixth branch is Catharine, who was born in 1791, and was found dead in bed, March 1866. Her first husband was Robert Henderson. They had one daughter, Rebecca, who married Jerry Albaugh, and have one child, Andrew, who has children married and grand-children. Most of the members of this generation live in Rexford, Tuscarawas County, Ohio. For her second husband "Aunt Katie" married William Stafford who was born April 5, 1789 and died on the anniversary of his birthday, 1866. The first of the Stafford children was John, who married Jane Rutledge, had two children, Daniel O. a Methodist minister of Cincinnati, and mary married William Quinn and lives near her parents. Jane was married to James Davis, and had two girls, Mary living and Caroline dead. The father was left a widower. Mary married Peter Whitmore, and they are living at Tontogany, Wood County, Ohio. Sarah Stafford also was born February 16, 1816, married Christer Albaugh, who was born November 8, 1813, and died August 31, 1884. Their first child was James W. who married Ellen Liggit. They had three children. Isaiah Gilmore, Levi Ross and Christian Armstrong.. The next child, Samuel, died at the age of eight years. David C. taught at select school at Annapolis and was a very successful teacher, but his laborers were ended by death in our Centinnial year. Catherine married R.J. Reid, and Jemima died the same year as her brother David, 1876. Amos A. married Martha E. Foster. They have three children, Winfield Scott, Bessie Elnore and Helena May. Mary Jane the youngest child died in 78. The mother is still living. Isaiah Gilmore previously mentioned, married Hannah Ager and they have two children, who belong to the sixth generation. William the second son is living on the original eighty acre farm and for some years has been afflicted with blindness, caused by cataract, for which he has been unsuccessfully treatedm his sister Eliza, buried her boy who was a very promising young man, and atr present manages the household affairs for her brother William. C.O. had seven children, Maggie, Adella, Mary, Jessie, Lucy, and Edgar living and Harrison and Jennie dead. Solomon died in early manhood, Nathan married Sarah Peeples, and had several children, Norman, Tomas, Sarah, William, and David O., the widow and children live near Republic City, Kansas. We conclude the history of this branch by saying that the youngest, David, still clings to the blissful state of single blessedness, without any apparent desire to enter into the connubial state. Pg 57-58 Of the next branch we can say that it has the only surviving member belonging to the second genreation - Aunt Anne Crider. She has never yet favored our reunion with her presence; and has been very reticent in her share of the biography, - in fact disputes the reliability of many statements herein contained. Yet we cannot pass by that branch whose chief representative has survived and withstood the storms of well-nigh a century, without furnishing such matters of information as are at our disposal. Aunt Anne was born October 22, 1801, and her husband, Uncle Joseph was born July 31, 1806. They were married March 26, 1882, and on the fifth of April of the same year, located on the eighty acres constituted the west half of the south west quarter of section 25, in Range 8, and Township 10. Here they lived for fifty-nine years, and four and one-half months. The 50th anniversary of their wedding was unthoughtedly passed by without celebration but Uncle Joe's 84th birthday was very kindly remembered by their friends and neighbors. In their declining years, Uncle Joe had several strokes of paralysis, but Aunt Anne has retained her vitality in a remarkable degree. (these dates are crazy, must be typos) Their first child was Amanda, who married James McKenny. They have three children, one boy and two girls. Mary, the second child married William Albaugh, and had six children, five girls, and one boy, all of whom are married but the youngest. Their names are Emberson, who ,arried Lizzie Scott, and have one child; Dilla, who married Thomas Daugherty, and has three children, Eva M., Charles Otto, and John W., all of whom live at Steubenville. Next is Caroline M., who married John Peeples. They have two children, Albert R., and Mary Anne. The next daughter married William Hemphill, and has five children, Maud, Alla W., Robert C., John R., and Grover C. Lousia C. married David Baldwin, and has two children, Emberson and Mary while the youngest, Olive Aimeda, is still single, and lives with her mother, the husband and father having for some time been an inmate of the Central Asylum for the Insane. Lewis married Lide J. Kelly and lives on the farm originally owned by Uncle Solomon. They have five children, Minnie, Mahala, Emma, Lizzie, and Ernest. Betz Family Reunions
